A geographic information system (GIS) is
a computer-based system capable of assembling, storing,
manipulating, analyzing, managing and displaying both spatial
(geographic or land-referenced) and non-spatial (time referenced)
information. What distinguishes GIS from other information
systems is its ability to integrate common database operations
with geographic analysis and mapping, providing data
for expert management, analysis and decision-making.

positioning systems (GPS) and photogrammetry. Data such as

as a collection of layers that can be stacked to get a true
picture of a particular location or to create a digital model
of the earth. Quicker and more efficient than manual methods,
